The Beauty of Bodyweight

One of the major advantages to bodyweight exercises is the way in which your body learns to co-ordinate itself and work together as a unit.

Something many people fail to realize is that when you choose to be very specifc with your training, to isolate and work just one muscle - using exercise machines in particular - is that the machine handles much of the control.

As you sit into a bench-press machine - it only lets you move along 'one plane' - forward or backwards.  There is no lateral movment to stablize, there is no difference between your left and right arm since the machine takes away much of the stress.

As a result - you end up lifting weights far heavier than you could without the machine and, more importantly, you fail to train all the smaller supporting muscles that play a particularly important role in joint strenght, mobility and resistance to injury.
